I am getting ready to move for the first time in many years. I am a little nervous – and am afraid that I might forget some details. Do you have any advice?

Yes. In preparing for a move, infrequent movers should indeed research all aspects. You can never be too careful in selecting a quality moving company, or in storing and packing your personal items. I recommend getting to know your moving company first hand – to be sure you are comfortable with their moving and storage procedures. Ask around, as a company’s reputation is the best source of information. “On the Move – The Ultimate Moving Guide from the Moving Experts”, C&M Moving and Storages’ new E-Book,  is a great source for helpful tips and advice for first time movers, as well as experienced ones.

Recently, profiled by Entrepreneur and Southern Living magazines, Ron Merrill is a man on the move. For nearly three years, Merrill wrote the monthly lifestyle column “The Good Life” in Houston’s 002+ Magazine, and his company, C&M was named one of the fastest growing businesses in Houston by the Houston Business Journal.
C&M Moving and Storage has grown by leaps and bounds since cornering the market on ‘white glove moving,’ transporting Houston’s fine art and antiques. Whether Castle or Museum, Chateau and Manor or Condo and Mansion, C&M Moving stands for something exceptional: Careful Moving.

Ron Merrill, owner and founder of C&M Moving and Storage, was bored with the family business and ready to strike out on his own. After a brief stint with a moving company, he saw the tremendous potential in creating a specialized business; a Houston moving company that would cater to interior designers, furniture manufacturers and antique collectors. Mr. Merrill thought, “What if we offered a premium service at a competitive price?” The concept of ‘white glove moving’ was born.

In March of 1999, C&M started out with a rented van and two antique dealers that trusted them to carefully move their precious cargo. Initially, the new company depended on referrals and word of mouth. Their base of designers grew as they focused on their target market and quickly became the company for moving fine furnishings. Shortly thereafter, Ron was counting among his clients Houston’s high profile socialites who trusted him to move their River Oaks and ShadySide mansions either across town or to another city. After growing considerably in the first year, Ron Merrill developed his work ethos: Expert Service & Attention to Detail.

Since 1999, the Houston moving company has grown ten-fold. By 2002, the Houston Business Journal was calling C&M one of the fastest growing companies in town. The company recently consolidated from three scattered warehouse locations to the current 80,000 square foot facility.

C&M fills the need for high quality transfers and doesn’t shy away from challenging jobs. “Our employees are all star players. They are very well trained and extremely thorough and professional. They see each job through from beginning to end and are appropriately compensated” says Mr. Merrill. “My team members take pride in their work and its shows. Whether you are moving locally or nationally, the same crew works the job throughout. The same movers who pack you up in Houston will fly out and unpack you in San Francisco.” This assures trust, consistency and quality while maintaining competitive pricing.
